Prague’s European GNSS Agency – home to the Galileo satellite – was where Galileo For Mobility officially kicked off on January 23, 2018. The European Global Navigation Satellite Systems Agency (GNSS) was the only real contender to host the launch event for a project that will look to launch MaaS into the stratosphere.
Chiefly, the satellite will aid the signal strength and precision of tracking tools. This will prove a great benefit to both operators and passengers who have in the past had variable quality of geolocation services. Especially in the urban jungle where coverage can be hit and miss, the Galileo satellite will transform MaaS from an industry disruptor into a transport solution that delivers.
All available partners made the trip which included a visit to the satellite’s operating team and a full behind-the-scenes tour of the Agency. The consortium consists of partners drawn from across Europe, including representation in Belgium, France, Greece, Spain and the UK. Five operational pilots will take place featuring Barcelona, Paris, Thessaloniki and Milton Keynes (UK).
