Since 1885, UITP -International Association of Public Transport is the world-wide association of urban, suburban and regional passenger transport operators, their authorities and suppliers. As a passionate champion of sustainable urban mobility, UITP is internationally recognized for its work in advancing the development of this critical policy agenda. UITP is located in Brussels and with over 1,400 member companies, 18,000 contact members from 96 countries and 14 liaison and regional offices across the globe, UITP‘s main objectives are to study all aspects of public transport and mobility in order to promote the development of more efficient and attractive public transport services and to gain the maximum benefit from the latest available technology. UITP acts as a forum for transport operators and undertakings to exchange information and ideas on a world-wide basis. UITP organizes special thematic meetings and conferences, projects and studies to meet the needs of its members, and every two years a biennial International Congress and Exhibition, the Global Public Transport Summit. UITP creates knowledge and enable innovation in specific topics related to all modes of transport like digitalization, security and safety, combined mobility and mobility as service, automated road transport, Bus, Metro, Light Rail, Regional and suburban rail, taxi and waterborne. UITP organizes several Committees and Commissions that compile and develop global knowledge for the whole community of members. Among them, the Combined Mobility platform addresses shared mobility, Mobility as a Service and Autonomous Vehicles as complementary to the public transport existing offer. INITIATIVE: “ITxPT” ASSOCIATION: Information Technology for Public Transport. The ITxPT (Information Technology for Public Transport) Initiative aims to further cooperate on the implementation of standards for plug-and-play IT-systems applied to public transport. An integrated testbench offers services to specify, test, qualify and showcase IT solutions.
ARTICLE: “Data-driven”. The article was initially published in Public Transport International magazine 3/2015 with the title “Data-driven”. It explains how to make the most of the “digital exhaust” of data from operations and customer interactions.
Role in the project:
Given its network of members and expertise on the area, UITP will lead the WP7 and take most of the disseminiation activities under their responsibility. They will also provide a valuable input on transversal issues such as Market Analysis or Big Data exploitation.
